Youths under the aegis of the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Youths Coalition (IKSDYC) have called on the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. Iniobong Ememobong, to desist from “disparaging the person of Senator Godswill Akpabio, through wild, fictitious and unsubstantiated allegations”.
In a communique signed by the youths and issued to newsmen at the end of their meeting on Friday, May 24, at the Godswill Akpabio Skills Acquisition Centre, Ikot Ekpene, the youths noted that Akpabio’s movement from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in August 8th, 2018, “was to make life better and more meaningful for our people, especially our youths”.
They averred that the PDP publicity secretary had condescended to making fallacious insinuations about Akpabio because of the just-concluded general elections which they described as “an election that will go down in history as the biggest, most elaborate fraud executed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC”, Barr. Mike Igini.
They also expressed regrets that having overcome the electoral period, “the focus of Akwa Ibom people should have shifted to real time business of governance”, has been characterized by “divisiveness, character assassination, industrialization propaganda, ethnic bigotry, monetary inducement which heralded the campaign period, a far departure from the verifiable accomplishments of Senator Godswill Akpabio which remains unparalleled since the creation of the state and earned him the sobriquet “uncommon Transformer” which he is known and fondly addressed across the world”.
The caucus recalled that “one of Senator Godswill Akpabio’s greatest achievements in public life includes but not limited to the discovery, nurturing and development of young people, of which Ini Ememobong is a beneficiary of Senator Akpabio’s magnanimity”, adding that “Ini Ememobong cannot give a sincere account of his achievements in life from his days in NANS up to his first experience as Personal Assistant to a State Governor and his current political office without crediting at least 80 percent to Senator Akpabio, whom he today takes great pleasure in insulting and denigrating at the slightest opportunity”.
They called on the state elders and Governor Udom Emmanuel to restrain the Publicity Secretary “from insulting Senator Akpabio and creating a chaotic political atmosphere”, adding that “nobody has the monopoly for mischief”.
The youth caucus passed a vote of confidence on Senator Godswill Akpabio as the leader of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District and restated their “unalloyed loyalty, solidarity and absolute support to continue his laudable strides for the people of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large”.
