Youths of Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday, June 18, staged a protest at the entrance of Frontier Oil Limited, over the oil firm’s alleged breach of terms of contract with the host community.
An eyewitness reports that the protest was an expression of displeasure over the firm’s failure to adhere to local content policy as well as non-payment of entitlements.
The youths, numbering over 30 were seen with various placards carrying inscriptions like “Frontier Oil won’t operate without adherence to local content policy”, “Pay us our Due entitlements”, “Frontier Oil must go”, as well as an empty coffin wrapped in red and black clothing.

Platinum.ng gathered from the protesters that the oil firm had gone against the established Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the host community, and marginalized the people; a deed they considered a “flagrant treatment and violation of its operational policy”.
Meanwhile, efforts to reach the management of Frontier Oil yielded were still unfruitful at the time of this report.
