Works Commissioner Expresses Satisfaction with Quality, Pace of Road Construction
The Akwa Ibom State’s Works and Fire Service Commissioner, Prof. Eno Ibanga, has expressed satisfaction with the quality and extent of work done by some contractors in the State.
Prof. Ibanga who gave the contractors a pat at the back during an inspection of some road projects in the State on Tuesday, March 23, explained that he needed to ascertain the preparedness of the contractors to meet deadlines, as the rainy season is underway.
The Commissioner inspected the Mbiatok-Ekritam-Mbiaya Uruan Road, Mbiaya Uruan-Ita Uruan-Ikpa Uruan-Mbiakong Uruan Road and Anua-Mbak-Ishiet Road on Tuesday,March 23,2021.
Prof. Ibanga, who commended Senator Anietie Okon, whose company, Trident Energy System Limited, is handling the 4.0km Mbiatok- Ekritam- Mbiaya Uruan Road with a spur, for the quality of work done on the road, however, charged them to do more.
He further called on the contractors and engineers to speed up the pace of work to ensure that it is ready for use before heavy rainfall starts.
Meanwhile, asphalting work has been done on the 800m stretch of the spur by the construction company, even as 600m of the road is at priming level. So far, earth work; drains as well as seven culverts have been constructed.
At the 9.0km Mbiaya Uruan-Ita Uruan-Ikpa Uruan-Mbiakong Uruan Road with a 60m Span Bridge, handled by Zenith Construction Limited, the project Manager, Engr. Emah,assured that they will complete 2km of earth works and asphalting by the end of April, 2021.
The Works and Fire Service helmsman assured the contractors that the mlnistry will pay the necessary compensation to affected persons to ensure that all impediments to the road construction were successfully eliminated.
At the 19.317km Anua-Mbak-Ishiet Road with spurs, constructed by Verini Construction Company Limited, the Commissioner was so impressed at the pace of work done and promised to brief the Governor accordingly, but advisied them to maintain the tempo.
He assured the contractors that the government of Mr Udom Emmanuel will always do its own part of the contract through proper funding of projects, and called on them to ensure timely completion of the projects for the promotion of economic activities and social interaction in the State.
Prof Ibanga was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Fire Service, Engr. John Itiat, and the Director of Civil, Engineer Akaninyene Henry, among others.
