Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has said that the withholding of his Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has the potential to stir up tension in the State.
Addressing some youths at the government house in Owerri, after the presentation of certificates of return to senators-elect, Okorocha alleged that INEC was colluding with some of his political enemies to deny him his mandate.
Okorocha argued that the move to withhold his certificate of return based on allegation without hearing his own side of the story is unjust, an insult to his person and a mockery of Nigeria’s fledgling democracy.
He urged INEC to do the needful and uphold his mandate and present him his Certificate of Return.
Platinum.ng had earlier reported that INEC issued certificates of return to 100 senators-elect at the International Conference Center (ICC) in Abuja earlier today.
The national chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, congratulated the elected senators in his opening speech, adding that INEC looks forward to working with the new senators for the good of the nation.
