With the dwindling fortunes of Crude oil in the world market, Governor Udom Emmanuel is investing in Coconut oil as a globally competitive high-income spinner.
Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Information, Sir Charles Udoh made this known over the weekend while appearing on a Live XL 106.9FM Super Breakfast Show – The Talk.
Sir Charles Udoh who reiterated that the world is fast moving away from crude oil to other sources of revenue, stated that Coconut oil is gaining ground as a better alternative to crude oil, with a barrel of coconut oil selling higher in dollars in the world market.
He said this realization gingered the interest of Governor Udom Emmanuel in setting up a Coconut oil Refinery in Akwa Ibom to boost the internally generated revenue of the state as an alternative to crude oil.
The fortunes of coconut oil as a huge income spinner, forms the major crux of the fifth edition of “TheDiary”, a catalogue of “Akwa Ibom State Information Boss, Sir Charles Udoh on matters of state importance,” for the benefit of those who may have missed out of any of the activities and programmes of the Commissioner within the period under review.
Udoh said government has put in place modalities to ensure the availability of raw materials for the coconut refinery for a smooth run of the industry when it hits off production, being a major source of internally generated revenue in the face of the declining income from crude oil.
Speaking further on government’s commitment at boosting its internally yields, Sir Charles Udoh said, the industrialization renaissance of Governor Udom Emmanuel, with over 18 industries on stream, is gearing not only at alleviating poverty and creating jobs and wealth for the teeming people of the state but also at propelling the internally generated revenue.
Udoh said, this much necessitated government’s investment in the completion work of Four Point by Sheraton in Ikot Ekpene, the construction of the permanent terminal building at the Victor Attah International Airport, the construction of the second Runway and plans to increase the fleet of Ibomair, all geared at attracting investors and tourists towards boosting internally generated revenue of the state.
On plans by the state government for Christmas, the state government spokesman said, there is excitement in the air as visitors, guests and tourists have more reasons than one to come to Akwa Ibom State for celebration during the yuletide.
He said the Unity Park is agog with a beehive of activities commencing from 1st of December when the Christmas village will be thrown opened till about the early part of next year, 2020 and listed programmes lined-up for entertainment and relaxation to include: Fashion show, the usual Ibeno beach carnival, “Usen Ndia”, an exhibition of the salivating delicacies and cuisines of the people of Akwa Ibom State as well as the popular Guinness Book of Records Christmas Carol festival.
Briefing Government House Press after a state executive council meeting within the period, the State Information Boss enlisted measures adopted by government to ensure availability of raw materials for the Coconut Refinery to include: approval for the establishment of a 50-hectare Coconut plantation in each of the 31 Local Government Areas of the state as well as the cultivation of 300 coconut stands in 230 selected secondary schools in the state.
He said that the decision was in line with the commitment of Udom Emmanuel-led administration to move the state from a mono oil-driven economy to an agro-based economy and stressed that coconut is a very valuable product with over 360 uses.
Other resolutions adopted by the state EXCO, according to the Information boss was the commencement of full automation of the civil service structure to ensure efficiency in record keeping and facility management as well as seamless transition from the regular payroll to a pension payroll.
The Commissioner of Information, Sir Charles Udoh was also very glaring, ensuring the successful coverage and publicity of the courtesy visit of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq along with her entourage to Governor Udom Emmanuel in Government House.
Within the period the Commissioner who added another year to his age, had a surprise birthday bash organized in his honour by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Mr. Inyang Jameson and management staff of the Ministry.
While the entire media community, family, friends and associates were busy celebrating the birthday of Sir Charles Udoh on different media platforms, the State Information helmsman was busy delivering a Lecture on “New Media Planning and Buying” at the 2019 Marketing and Advertising Management Workshop organized by Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria, APCON at Watbridge Hotel and Suites, IBB Way, Uyo.
Also, the Commissioner of Information, himself a proud son of Uyo and the Chairman, Central Planning Committee for the coronation of HRM Edidem Sylvanus Effiong Okon, JP, NDM, was captured in a release which informed the public that, the coronation ceremony is scheduled to hold at the Unity Park, Udo Udoma Avenue on Saturday December 7, 2019 by 11am.
To crown up the period, the number one image manager of Akwa Ibom State Government, Sir Charles Udoh, bagged the 2019 Best Public Service Information Manager Award in Nigeria.
The award was presented to the Commissioner by the Brand Journalists Association of Nigeria, BJAN, in recognition of his sterling performance in raising the bar in information management right from the first to the second term Completion Agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel at the conference Hall of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ikeja. The award presentation was part of activities of the 7th annual conference of the Brand Journalists Association of Nigeria.
In his reaction, Sir Charles expressed appreciation to the organizers of the award presentation for the honour done him and thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for the opportunity given to serve. He expressed gratitude to his wife, Lady Regina Charles Udoh for keeping the home front as well as his children and friends for their invaluable love and support.
