Senator Godswill Akpabio has revealed the reason behind his withdrawal of the suit he instituted against Engr. Chris Ekpenyong, winner of the February 23 National Assembly Elections from an Abuja High Court.
Speaking with news men after he casted his vote alongside his wife, Unoma Akpabio, on Saturday, March 9, at Ukana West 2, Unit 1 in Essien Udim, the former Senate minority leader hinted that the case was withdrawn from the Abuja High Court to be decided in an election Tribunal in Akwa Ibom.
Senator Akpabio said that the election Tribunal which was the right place to channel his petition had not been constituted at the time of the February 23 election hence, his movement to the High Court.
Upon the constitution of the election tribunal, the All Progressives Congress candidates for the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District said he’ll proceed to the tribunal next week.
Senator Akpabio again stressed that he won the election and would recover his stolen mandate.
He expressed faith in the election and its outcome and expressed optimism that he would be favoured at the court.
Platinum.ng had earlier reported that Justice Valentine Ashi of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had dismissed the case sequel to the application made by Counsel to Senator Akpabio, Sunday Ameh (SAN), that the case be withdrawn forthwith.
Akpabio was floored by Ekpenyong, a former deputy governor of the state who polled a total of 118,215 votes, defeating Akpabio who scored 83,158 votes.
