A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Ini Udoka, has said the party does not hire crowds for its campaign rallies.
Prof. Udoka, a former member of the House of Representatives, while addressing party stakeholders at Odoro Ikpe, headquarters of Ini Local Government Area, recently, said it was thus imperative for party leaders to mobilize supporters to turn up for rallies in their respective areas.
“In APC, we do not hire any crowd for rallies. In all our state campaign rallies, the crowds you see is the crowd of supporters from the particular local government area we go to. It is, therefore, important that we (party stakeholders) mobilize our supporters to turn up en-masse for our rallies.
He said Obong Nsima Ekere, the party’s governorship candidate; Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Senatorial candidate; Barr. Edidiong Idiong, the House of Representatives candidate and Nya John Isong, the House of Assembly candidate, are all loved by the people of the area, maintaining that people of the area across party lines will vote massively for them in the coming elections.
“All the candidates we are campaigning for are loved by the people. Obong Nsima Ekere is the preferred for Ini people. It is not only about the promises he holds to bring prosperity and growth back to Ini people, especially as he has designated the area a special intervention area in his blueprint, but about the failure of Governor Udom Emmanuel to impact positively in the local government area.”
“Our Senate candidate, Senator Godswill Akpabio is a darling of the area. He has carried the area along in his present capacity, including involving it in his constituency projects and empowerment.
“Barr. Edidiong Idiong, the House of Representatives candidate has impacted on the area so much in so short a time. The people are in love with him, especially after his free medical outreaches. So is the House of Assembly candidate, Hon. Nya John Isong.”
Others who spoke toed Prof Udoka’s line. A former member of the state House of Assembly, Obong Paul Owoh, noted that in the course of his Door-to-Door campaign, he noticed that in every home, the majority of voters are for Obong Nsima Ekere and other APC candidates.
Dr Godwin Udo Udo, popularly called Mentor, observed that Ini local government area is now a stronghold of the APC. He expressed optimism that the party will win in all elections in the area, adding that those in control of politics in the area are all in the APC.
Also speaking, the chapter Chairman of the Party, Comrade Itoro Efrenie, affirmed the commitment of the constituency to the APC. He said: “We are ready. Ini is APC. APC is Ini. The Governorship, Senate and other candidates are coming to the home of APC. Even the few of our people that are not in our party come to us in the night to pledge support for our candidates. So, our candidates will have massive support from our people, I can assure you,” he said.
