UN Country Delegation Tours Akwa Ibom
… express satisfaction at Governor Udom’s performance
A team of the United Nations Organisation country delegations has expressed satisfaction on Governor Udom’s sterling performance in the development of infrastructure in Akwa Ibom State.
The team leader, UN Resident/Nigeria’s Coordinator (RC), Mr. Edward Kallon, made the assertion while on a facility tour at St. Gabriel’s Coconut factory, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.
Mr. Kallon, said the coconut factory represents an example of visionary leadership that is working for the future prosperity of his people.
He noted that as an Agricultural Development Specialist, Agriculture beyond the subsistent level, brings about value addition and chain. According to him, this feat is a starting point that needs to be sustained by the State.
In her remarks, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Glory Edet said Governor Udom Emmanuel since assumption of office in 2015, has done a lot in Agriculture, Industrialization and other sectors of the State.
Dr Edet explained that the factory which is projected to employ about 1,200 staff, will definitely offer a means of livelihood for youths and women in Akwa Ibom State.
The Commissioner noted that the Governor has gone beyond building a factory, to cultivating coconut plantation which will provide readily available raw material for the facility to produce at full capacity.
The Factory Consultant, Engr. Francis, who took the team round, hinted that the factory is open for production for the first time in sub-Saharan Africa, to extract virgin coconut oil from coconut seeds.
Francis, averred that Governor Udom has taken this bold step which will play a very important role in growing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country.
The team also expressed satisfaction when they visited the Green Houses.
Present at the event were Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Multinational and Donor Agencies, Mr. Nana Udom, Chairman, Mkpat Enin LGA, Hon. Aniekpon Ekpo among other dignitaries.
