On Thursday, March 14, the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Inter-party Affairs, Hon (Dr) Lawrence Udoide, visited his kinsmen to appreciate them for voting en mass for candidates of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded general election in the state.
According to the Governor’s Aide, the thank you parley is his way of appreciating his people for the overwhelming support they showed his boss, Deacon Udom Emmanuel, at the polls.
Hon Udoide explained that since the return of democracy in the state, it was the first time, election was conducted in Ukwok ward nine and ten, adding that election materials had always been destroyed.
‘I was not surprised that this happened during the tenure of His Excellency Deacon Udom Emmanuel. Having considered the fact that Udom Emmanuel is the only governor that has appointed an Ukwok person into the list of government officials in the state, the people had no choice than to let peace reign. So they voted for Governor Emmanuel in show of appreciation of what he has done.’
He thanked particularly, the chiefs and elders of the two wards for standing by him to galvanize support for the governor’s reelection. He also thanked the youths for hiding the advice of the elders and for voting overwhelmingly, to the governor in the two wards.
Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers in the two wards, Chief Ukpong Udo Umoren expressed gratitude to the Governor’s Aide for the prompt celebration. While expressing optimism that things can only get better, he affirmed the fact that Ukwok has never had it better since the creation of the state.
He reminisced with admiration, the December 22nd empowerment programme of the Governor’s Aide stating that the effects of the programme are still being felt in the two wards. According to him, beneficiaries of the skill acquisition programme are still acquiring skills living in their all-paid accommodations. On this note, he said that the people of Ukwok could not have done better than, vote en mass for the governor’s return and this, they did because of their son.
He used the opportunity to call on the state government to rescue them from suffering by expediting action towards the construction of access road to them. This, he believes will connect them to the world in term of commercial and social activities.
In their separate speeches, Councilor Representing ward 10 in Ini Local Government Council, Hon John Paul; Youth president ward 9, Mr Ezekiel Ema Usang; Youth President ward 10, Mr Friday Udo Johnson; Woman leader ward 9, Obonganawn Ima Okon Udo; and Woman leader ward 10, Mrs Comfort Okon Udo thanked the Governor’s Aide for what they described as unprecedented and overwhelming show of appreciation to them.
