The Principal of Ubium Community Secondary School, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, Mr. Sunday Akpan Ekpo has commended the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for his commitment and strides towards educational development in the State.
The Principal made the remarks during the presentation of computer sets to the school by the Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno.
Mr. Ekpo said the Governor has been unwavering in his commitments to repositioning the education sector in the State, stressing that in about a fortnight, the Governor had commissioned classroom block in the school and has been consistent in prompt payment of salaries.
The Principal said he had, during the commissioning, made a request for computer sets to enable the teaching of computer in the school, and expressed satisfaction that within a short time, the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno who represented Governor Udom at the commissioning has made good his promise.
“God has honoured us today, and will continue to honour our school.
This gesture is going to give a boost to the teaching of ICT in our school. I pray that God will continue to bless our Governor, and our own son, Pastor Umo Eno,” he said.
While presenting the computer sets, the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources – Pastor Umo Eno – thanked the Principal and the management team for their efforts at nurturing the children and urged them to double up for a better future of the area, the State and country at large.
The Commissioner who was represented by the former Transition Chairman of Nsit Ubium LGA, Hon. Otobong Edemidiong observed that the school has quite a number of needs, but noted that the computer sets were presented due to the importance of computer knowledge in the present century, adding that the school will continue to get more support to boost academic performance.
While charging them on judicious use of the computer sets he said, “I implore you to handle these systems with optimum care and ensure that the students are well trained in order to compete favourably in areas of ICT with others outside the school, the state and the world at large.”
Expressing appreciation, one of the teachers, Mr. Kenneth Bankwe said he was surprised by the quick fulfillment of the promise adding that he thought it was a ‘political’ statement when the Commissioner promised computer sets to the school. He therefore prayed for more blessing upon the Commissioner and his benefactor, Governor Udom Emmanuel. Also in the team were; Hon Jephter Tom – Councilor representing Ibiakpan Obotim Ward I and Emmanuel Joseph – Personal Aide to the Honourable Commissioner among others.
