Three persons have been confirmed dead and five injured, in a clash involving a woman and a man alleged to have been her lover in two communities in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Sources report that the woman, Mrs. Ime Etuo of Ikot Osute village, had gone back to her father’s compound after divorcing her husband.
They later got back together and her husband decided to stay with her in her father’s compound.
He however discovered that his wife was having an affair with another man from Ikot Ukpong village, and expressed his displeasure at the act but, did not stop there.
Youths of Ikot Osute got wind of the information and stormed the abode of the woman’s lover, and beat him to death.
Subsequently, the Ikot Ukpong community leaders mobilised youths and caught the killer who escaped into the bush while they awaited the arrival of the Police.
When they could not find him, youths of Ikot Ukpong village, went on a reprisal attack to Ikot Osute village and shot two persons dead, and injured five.
Confirming the incident, the Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Odiko MacDon, said that “the Police have mounted surveillance in the area to forestall further hostilities, but will arrest suspects for investigations and bring them to book.”
