…Passes Vote of Confidence on Council Boss
The women of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area have applauded Mrs Esther Unyime Etim, wife of Local Government Council Chairman, for her empowerment of not fewer than 99 women in the area, with different working tools to boost their business adventures.
The women expressed their gratitude on Thursday, November 28 during the presentation of empowerment items to respective beneficiaries.
While pouring the encomiums on the Chairman’s wife, one of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Helen Udo Udo of Abak Oko, Ward 4, expressed satisfaction over what she described as Mrs Etim’s milk of human kindness, show of love and affection towards humanity.
“Since the inception of democratic rule in 1999, Ikot Ekpene as a Local Government has not witnessed this magnanimous and scintillating gesture for the women and it will never be forgotten in a hurry”, she said.
“As one of the beneficiaries, I promise to utilize and make good use of this material which I strongly believe before six months’ time will yield positive fruits than expected”, she added.
The women in their large number extolled the leadership of Mr. Unyime Etim, Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council, for setting the tone of a typical effective and efficient representation in a democratic society, adding that the Local Government Boss has performed beyond expectation.
In her speech, the first Lady of the Local Government Area, Mrs Esther Unyime Etim appreciated Dr. Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel, wife of the state governor, for being the brain behind the empowerment initiative.
She described such gesture as good and indelible, adding that it was a footprint to be written on the sands of time.
Mrs. Etim urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of items received, stating that the greatest investment in life is investment in humanity which she has keyed into, to promote trade and entrepreneurship; add value to lives and well-being, and as well sustain family development.
The event which took place at Shelter Afrique Field, Uyo was organized and sponsored by Wives of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (WALGON), Akwa Ibom State Chapter and themed: “Women Capacity Building And Productivity: Creating Wealth From Available Resources by Rural Women”.
A total of 987 women were empowered with Sewing Machines, Hair Dryers and other start-up equipment.
