The Uyo Central Diocese of the African Church has gotten a new Bishop in the person of His Lordship Rt. Rev’d Augustine Paul Ikat.
He is however to assume his duties by Sunday, November 1.
A statement by the spokesperson of the Diocese Board of clergy, Rev. Richard Peters, on Wednesday, November 27, has it that the new Bishop takes over from his predecessor, Ven. C. B Ndon, who is now the Bishop of Annang Diocese of The African Church.

“I wish to inform the general public that His Eminence, Dr. Emmanuel Udofia, Primate of The African Church worldwide following the approval from the General committee/conference of church and by the powers conferred on him by the constitution of The African Church (2004 as amended) has approved the translation of a Diocesan Bishop to The African Church, Uyo central Diocese, Calabar Province”, the statement reads.
“Bishop Ikat until his translation to Uyo Central Diocese was the Bishop of The African Church, Ibibio South Diocese and is succeeded by Bishop Isreal Benson the chairman of Christian Council of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State Chapter”, it continues.
The statement describes the incoming Bishop as “a reputable administrator, godfearing preacher and teacher” who “has promised to run the Diocese in line with the directions of the Holy spirit, Holy Bible and provisions of the Church constitution”.
It calls on principal officers of the Church, ministers and members to attend the service organized by the diocese to welcome the newly translated Bishop on Friday, November 29 at 10:00am.
“As confirmed by the principal officers in The African Church, Uyo Central Diocese, the Ministers, officers and members across all the churches within the Diocese and beyond are expected to attend a special service organized to officially welcome the newly translated Bishop, Rt. Rev’d A. P. Ikat on Friday 29th November 2019 by 10am at The African Church, St. Michael’s Cathedral, Four Towns, Uyo, opposite Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat”, the release concludes.
