The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and member-elect for the Etinan Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, has called on the Akwa Ibom community to support the second term administration of the state Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
Specifically, the Speaker was referring to a socio-political group – Ukara Ibibio – who paid him a courtesy visit on Thursday, May 30.
The group, poised at retaining the core values of Akwa Ibom State and integrating the social, political and cultural heritage of Ibibio Nation, was led by its International President and Vice Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council, Hon. Ukai Udeme Emmanuel.
While congratulating the Speaker for emerging victorious at the just concluded National Assembly election, Ukai extolled the leadership of Barr. Onofiok Luke in piloting the affairs of the Assembly with regards to the constitution, and acknowledged his developmental strides at giving the people a true sense of political and social belonging which he said is symbolic of democratic leadership.
In his response, the Speaker, Barr. Onofiok Luke appreciated the organization for acknowledging him and described their action as a true spirit of sportsmanship.
“Today the world has moved from individualism to connectivity. We need a unity of purpose in Akwa Ibom State to actualize our dreams and build a better Akwa Ibom State for the benefit of our generation unborn.
We should abolish all forms of devises that will divide us irrespective of our religion, sex, gender and tribe, we must join hands together to make Akwa Ibom state a greater state.” he stated.
He urged the organization to be cooperative with the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel and his administration, to foster the desired progress of the state.
He also called on the group to support their traditional head, the Oku Ibom Ibibio, His Eminence Nteyin Solomon David Etuk, in the strive for unity as well as the maintenance and preservation of the cultural heritage of the Ibibio’s whom he said are the first born of Akwa Ibom State.
The group presented an Award of Excellence to the Speaker in recognition of his selfless service to humanity and contributions to the growth and development of the society.
