The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East, Obong Bassey Albert, on Monday, December 23, paid what could be termed a surprise visit to Journalists in Akwa Ibom State.
The visit which coincided with the year-end Congress of the Akwa Ibom State Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) was heralded by members of the Union who described his coming as historic.
Senator Albert, in his address to the newsmen harped on constructive criticism of the government and her activities, as well as the need for the journalists to be balanced in their reports.
He advised them to avoid blackmail and develop a healthy writing character for which they will be known for by the reading public.
He recalled his story of grace and divine intervention, and told them that at a point in their lives, they will be in need of somebody. For this reason, the Senator advised that the pen pushers should be character conscious.
Senator OBA also extolled the virtues of the State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Amos Etuk, whom he observed, is managing the affairs of the Union better than he met it.
He charged Comrade Amos to continue in his good works, adding that his hard work now will speak for him tomorrow.
Earlier, the State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Amos Etuk who received the Senator with his entourage, noted that it was the first time a public official was visiting the union few days away from Christmas.
Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the State Union, Comrade Nene Afia thanked the Senator for stopping by, and sought for more of such visits.
She appealed to Senator OBA to look at some uncompleted projects at the Press Centre and assist in its completion.
Specifically, the Vice Chairman pointed at the NUJ auditorium and craved his indulgence in taking it up as one of his constituency projects.
Highpoint of the event was the celebration of Christmas with the newsmen by the Senator.
