The President General of Oron Development Union and Senior Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, Mrs. Janet Amba on Saturday, December 21, received the Ibibio Excellence performance award of the year, at the 2019 Ibibio Converge organised by Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio.
The award is an acknowledgement of Amba’s significant contribution to the development of Oron nation and Akwa Ibom State at large.
The Ibibio Excellence award conferred on the first female president general of Oron nation also in recognition of her commitment to bettering the lives of people and societies across Africa by philanthropic engagement.
Presenting the award, former military Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mkpisong Idongesit Nkanga said “recipients are singled out for their work in bringing prosperity to their immediate community, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large”.
According to Ntison Ibibio 111, Ntison Essien Ekidem; Janet Amba’s ascendancy in a male dominated office, with great leadership skills, impact and live-touching legacies, project her as being a model worthy of emulation.
Dedicating the award to Oron Nation, President Amba noted that the Ibibio’s are elder brothers to other ethnic groups in the state, being first and fourth largest ethnic group in the country.
“It means a lot to me and the entire Oron people, this is a unity movement, when an elder see what the junior is doing towards the progress of the family and encourages, it gives way to unity prosperity and peace in the family”, she said.
“I was surprised when I received a letter from Ntison Ekidem to come over for this award today. I am delighted that Ibibio recognises our contribution towards Akwa Ibom State development and Nigeria at large.
“This award will motivate us to work together and broaden our vision as a United front towards the socio-political, economic and cultural emancipation of our state”, she added.
Mrs Janet Amba is an epiphany; a gentle and successful business woman with astute and influential leadership qualities. A Paul Harris Fellow and an Associate of Chartered Institute of Public Management of Nigeria and is known for her moral dress sense.
From 1969, the year of her birth in Urue Offong Oruko Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, till date, her vision has been an inspiration wherever she sets foot.
Her experiences in the Banking industry, Oil and Gas Sector where she eventually resigned to birth “Icon Environmental Cleaners Limited” – a company she started with just Four (4) employees to over 500 motivated staff whose dedication has earned the company prestigious awards including the Best Performing Company in 2018, at the Institute of Oil and Gas and Hydrocarbons Studies – have all helped in giving her a sense of focus and direction.
An Alumni of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State; University of Agriculture, Markurdi, Benue State and The Polytechnic, Calabar, Cross River State; She is an Old Girl of West African People’s Institute, Calabar, Cross River state.
Chief (Mrs) Janet Amba is a mentor and founder of Unique Icon Builders, a Non – Governmental Organization which identifies, enrolls and empowers people with special needs; widows, and those living with permanent disabilities and the youths.
As a result of her passion for humanitarian services, she was awarded Mother of Akwa Ibom State Teenagers in 2018 by the Akwa Ibom State Teenagers Forum.
She delved into Community Service and became the First Female Vice President-General of the Oron Union, the first ever female Patron of Essunlap Oro, Abuja branch, and the President-General of Oron Union founded in 1925.
As President-General of the Union, she has given the people of Oro a voice and Identity by renovating the Civic Center, Oro House and completing the Administrative Block all in one year. She has sponsored hundreds of youths and students in schools and a few more hundreds in skills and acquisition programs.
Her generosity and benevolence have made her outstanding amongst rivals and a recipient of many awards, a total of 54 since December, 2017.
She was recently awarded with an Excellence in Leadership Award by DEAL for her contributions to the successful re-election of Mr. Udom Emmanuel, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, and recently appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Small and Medium Enterprises.
She has also served as the Chairperson of Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Bayelsa state and is currently the Chairperson of POWA, Ekiti State.
Chief (Mrs.) Janet Amba has won received many awards and Chieftaincy titles too numerous to mention including the recent 2019 Phenomenal Woman of worth award by the African Women in Leadership Organisation.
Chief (Mrs.) Janet Amba, is a successful mother and a happy wife, married to CP Asuquo Amba, CP Ekiti State. Their Union is blessed with Six (6) children and one grand Child.
