Unyime Idem Flags-off Skill Acquisition/Empowerment for Constituents

The member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Unyime Idem has promised to use human capacity development to reduce insecurity and social vices in Ukanafun and its environs.

Speaking at the official flag-off of the first ever Ukanafun and Oruk Anam skills acquisition and empowerment initiative for 5,000 beneficiaries, Hon. Idem said the move was in fulfillment of his campaign promise to the people to partner with the state government to restore peace and development to the area.

The Deputy Chairman House Committee on Telecommunications while updating his constituents of his achievement so far in the Green chamber, added that immediately after his inauguration he moved a motion for the rehabilitation of the Nigeria Institute for Palm Oil Research- NIFOR, Oruk Anam sub-station, stating that relevant agencies have been directed to begin work on rehabilitation of the facility.

He also said within the first two months of his representation, he has secured a deal with the Finnish government to build 1000 capacity ICT Hub in Ukanafun to development in youths in the area with the foundation to be laid in December this year, assuring that plans were on to rehabilitate Market road in Ukanafun through his partnership with Federal Ministry of Rural Development as well as the construction of Ukanafun-Ekparakwa Road.

The Federal lawmaker thanked the people of the area for the support during the last election and promised to initiate more life touching programmes to the people of the area, urging the beneficiaries of the skills acquisition and empowerment initiative to take the programme seriously by choosing any vocation of their choice to be trained, announcing that he is ready to stake his four years allowances to ensure the success of the initiative.

While performing the flag off, Governor Udom Emmanuel who was represented by his deputy, Moses Ekpo thanked Hon. Idem for the early move in fulfilling his campaign promises, calling on others to emulate the gesture in order to create jobs for the teeming youths and charged the youths to embrace the programme and shun crime and violence describing the lawmaker as one of the best the state produced in the last election.

The event which was chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem had in attendance the member representing Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency, Hon. Onofiok Luke, his Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika counterpart, Hon. Aniekan Umana, former federal lawmakers, Chairman of Ukanafun council, PDP stakeholders, traditional and religious leaders as well as the state coordinator, National Directorate of Employment-NDE, Mr Promise Eka amongst others.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke commended Hon. Unyime Idem for the initiative and promised to make good use of the opportunity to develop their skills and become self employed.
