The just concluded 12th Annual General Meeting of the Uyo Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (UYOCCIMA) has seen the emergence of the former Rector of Maritime Academy, Obong Nseyen Ebong as the new President of the organization.
Also elected at the event were the former Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Martin Udoniyang as the Deputy President, the Chief Medical Director of St. Athanasius Hospital, Dr. Emmanuel Akpanobong, Vice President 1; Barr. Joe Ukpong, Vice President 2; CEO, Sun Centre, Dr. Umanaette Sunday emerged Vice President 3; Senior Pastor Victor Okokon Ekpo, Vice President 4; Mr. Ntiense Israel, Vice President 5; Mr. Ime Gamble was appointed the organization’s auditor while Barr. Charles Eyo emerged the Executive Secretary of organization.
In his acceptance speech, the new President, Obong Nseyen Ebong promised to work with his exco, diligently with transparency, accountability, commitment and sincerity to justify the confidence reposed on the star-studded team to move the UYOCCIMA forward with their experience over years in the public and private sector.
Earlier, in his opening remark, the Chairman of the occasion, Engr. Essien Ekidem thank Governor Udom Emmanuel for his Industrialization drive and prayed for God’s leadership, while calling on the chamber to join hands with the state government in moving Akwa Ibom forward with words and actions for a better future.
Similarly, the Member representing Itu State Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Commerce and Industry in Akwa Ibom State House Of Assembly, Hon. Kufre Edidem, represented by Engr. Ubong Ekoi urged the new executive of the organization to key into the Industrialization agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration for economic renaissance.
Also the Commissioner, Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Investment, Prince Ukpong Akpabio who was represented at the occasion by the permanent secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Oliver Udokpo added that UYOCCIMA remains a relevant stake holder in the industrialization drive of the present administration, adding that their advise was very critical to the development of the state.
In his hand-over note, the outgoing President of the Chamber, Obong Simeon Umoette said he was handing over to the new exco for the ratification of a new and improved chamber with a more promising structure.
“Henceforth, things will not be the same, I’m happy to handover an allocated Commiserate 5.391 hectares of land located at ring road, in Ikot Adaidem, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
“I commend the efforts of my predecessor, Obong Okon Emmah who acted as a facilitator, as we are stepping out. I pray that my administration will be remembered for at least two achievement, Land Acquisition and reorganization. I expect my successor to build on the new strong organization and expand membership base to accommodate the Women and Youths”, he said, while calling for the incorporation of hospitality, transportation sector, oil and gas industry among other committees of the organization.
