The Executive Chairman of Uyo Local Government, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo has expressed delight with the leadership and members of the Federated Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council for their effort to improve plastic waste recycling in the state capital.
Speaking at the flagoff of sensitization campaign on plastic waste management in Uyo, the Chairman, who was represented by the Council Secretary, Mr. Ubong Udofia said the decision of the media practitioners to raise awareness about plastic recycling is crucial as it will help in the preservation of the environment.
Udofia pledged the commitment of Uyo local government council to partner media practitioners in the state whenever they embark on people oriented projects.
The Chairman of Federated Chapel, Comrade Inimfon Silas in his remarks noted that the need to properly sensitize the public on plastic wastes management cannot be overemphasized which is why the Chapel is staging a campaign on “MANAGING PLASTIC WASTES AND GASFLARING FOR SOCIO-ECONOMIC BENEFITS” at its 2021 Press Week.
Plastic Waste is the significant amount of unrecycled plastics which pollute and cause damage to the ecosystem when thrown into unregulated dump sites.
During the sensitization tour, the Federated Chapel presented receptacles to Uyo Local Government Area which were received by the Council Secretary and handed over to the management of Ibom Plaza led by Mr. Dominic Inyang.
Mr. Inyang promised to ensure proper use of the receptacles and appreciated the Federated Chapel of the NUJ for their gesture.
