The Executive Chairman of Obot Akara Local Government Area, Etubom Anietie Akpaettor, has announced a one-day free medical service to hold on Thursday, January 2020, for widows of Slain military men at Primary Health Center, Obot Akara.
The Chairman who made this known on Wednesday, at the grand finale/laying of wreath to mark the 2020 Armed Forces remembrance day, held at the Council Secretariat, Nto Edino, Obot Akara LGA, said legionnaires from the area will also benefit from the medical exercise.
Akpaettor said “it is the responsibility of beneficiaries of the peace enjoyed today, to bring succor to the surviving veterans and by extension their families”.
While reiterating the Council’s continuous support for the legionaries and their widows, Akpaettor also approved the provision of means of transportation by the Council to the Chairman of the Legion, Major Elijah Effiong to aid his work in the Local Government.
He appealed to indigenes of the area to adopt dialogue, consultation and constitutional means as ways of resolving disputes and to shun social vices that would lead to communal unrest.
On behalf of legionaries and their widows, the elated Major Ekpenyong thanked the Council helmsman for “his unwavering support towards the legion in the Local Government”.
