…Declare Partial Ban on Motorcycles in Eket
The Executive Chairman of Eket Local Government Council, Mr. Frank Archibong have stated that the people of Eket will experience effective and efficient healthcare services, assuring that security of lives and properties in the area will be guaranteed.
Mr. Archibong stated this in his office on Tuesday, September 24, during the official inauguration of the Eket Local Government Health Authority (LGHA) Advisory Committee.
He noted that Healthcare was one area which has not been given adequate attention and support, and charged members of the committee to rise to the task before them to enable them tackle and find lasting solutions to the challenges of health and safety, in order to compliment on the State government efforts towards enhancing development in the health sector.
Archibong who decried the sudden rise on issues bordering on health and security, posited that the LGHA advisory committee is to partner with relevant agencies to facilitate free medical treatment for the people of Eket.
Describing as wonderful the last medical outreach at Ekpenebom, the council boss emphasized that the mission and vision of the committee is to support, provide direction for the management team, mobilize and arrogate resources.
Other responsibilities and terms of reference of the committee as outlined by the chairman include the provision of strategic health direction to monitor implementers to account and evaluate effective and efficient use of resources and as well receive and deliberate on health report and advise on decisions to improved healthcare services in the area.
Mr. Archibong who is also the Akwa Ibom State ALGON boss, noted that Eket has in recent times fared badly in terms of security.
Following his determination to put a stop to incessant rape cases, robberies and phone theft/snatching, among other vices in the area, the Eket Council Boss has announced a partial ban on motorcyclists between the hours of 6pm and 6am daily.
This he said, was part of his designed measures to curb criminal activities and insecurity in the area.
He hinted that he has liased with trusted stakeholders in the transport sector to bring in tricycle (keke) and mini buses into Eket as alternative means of transportation, while attributing the fold-up of businesses and crimes in the area to motorcyclists.
He intimated the committee of the already trained vigilante groups which will be enforced in no time and maintained that security issues require maximum attention.
The LGHA Advisory Committee has the council boss, Mr. Frank Archibong as chairman, while the following are members. Hon. Charity Ikott, supervisor for Health, Eket LGC; Akwa-Obonganwan Comfort Enondien, Apostle Samuel Essien, representative of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Eket Chapter, Mrs. Uwem Etukapan, Dir. Primary Healthcare, Eket LGA, Snr. Comrade Daniel Essien, Mr. Francis Whyte; Director of BPRS, Mr. Micheal Ekpo; Community Development officer, Anietie Ikpe, representative from Sexual Assault Referral centre, Eket. Mr. Bassey Bassey; representative of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Chief Solomon Eyire, Representative of the traditional council, Dr. Samuel Akwaowo, private sector representative, amonst others.
