The Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning, Prof. Victor Inoka, has stated the commitment of the Akwa Ibom State Government to partner Oil and Gas Companies in the State towards the expansion of workforce and creation of more jobs for the people of Akwa Ibom State.

The Commissioner made this position known recently during a familiarization visit to Sterling Oil Global Company, Iko Town, Eastern Obolo Local Government Area, where he averred that the aim of the visit was to create substantial synergy between the company and government in areas that would draw mutual benefits, allow for industrial harmony, job expansion and creation, exchange of programmes, deepening of local content development and training programmes for Akwa Ibom people.

Speaking further, the Commissioner stressed that in pursuit of his vision to industrialise the State, the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, created the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning, for human capacity development, geared towards enhancing the envisaged industrialization renaissance in his Completion Agenda.

Prof. Inoka, who further described the essence of the visit as an opportunity to interface with top echelon and the Management board of the company towards the realization of shared values with a view to also develop a working plan to strengthen local content participation in the Oil and Gas sector, swiftly assured companies in the state that, government is committed to providing support, safety and peaceful environment to enable  them thrive and succeed in their investment in the State.

In his response, the Security and Community Relations Base Manager, Sterling Oil Global Company, Group Captain Etete Ekpo (Rtd), expressed satisfaction at the visit, explaining that Sterling Oil Global Company is a community-based company that is committed to contribute to the development of their host community and the state in general.

He expressed the readiness of the organization to partner government and the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning on various programmes in the oil and gas sector, Agriculture, Skill acquisition, and all other programmes that would yield development and bring employment opportunities to Akwa Ibom people.

While calling on government for necessary support, he appreciated the commissioner for initiating the visit, saying that, the visit would afford them the opportunity to draw a framework that would enhance effective partnership with government.

Commending the Commissioner for initiating series of visits to various organisations that would facilitate the realization of the Ministry’s Core Mandates, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning, Dr. (Mrs) Valerie Obot, in her vote of thanks, lauded the Management of Sterling Oil Global Company for their warmth and readiness to partner government in the area of job creation, thereby increasing the fortunes of the State.
