The Chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), Prince Enobong Uwah has stressed that the State Government will not allow Uyo, the capital city to become a Shanty town.

Prince Uwah stated this when he frowned at the indiscriminate construction of ramshackle kiosks, containers, cabins, sheds and huts around the capital city.

He made this known while responding to enquiries from news men on the ongoing demolition exercise undertaken by the UCCDA to clean up illegal structures in the city of Uyo.

While stressing that, it is not the delight of the UCCDA to demolish structures; Prince Uwah maintained that developers who continue to defy the approved building specifications, or cause a distortion to the city master plan by building sheds and trading spots at unauthorized places will not be tolerated.

The UCCDA helmsman decried the situating of illegal sheds at areas of key importance like Udo Udoma Avenue, where the State House of Assembly, Central Bank of Nigeria, the High Court, Ibom Tropicana, New DAKKADA secretariat and the Nigeria Army Quarters are located.

He enjoined residents and people of Uyo to cooperate with the UCCDA to restore the glory of the capital city by avoiding acts that violate development procedures so that, they will not incur the wrath of government which is obliged to maintain the overriding public good and interest at all times.

The UCCDA, on Thursday, June 27, took the demolition exercise to Udo Udoma Avenue where illegal structures and unapproved attachments to buildings and fences were pulled down.
