Mr Archibong said the meeting was to sensitize stakeholders on precautionary measures against the virus and to plead that they take the message back to people in their respective villages, churches and markets around them.

“We are supporting the State Government in the fight against corona virus. It was for a time like this that our Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel revamped and renovated our health facilities, even our Immanuel General Hospital was not left out”.

“He made the health sector a primary point of his administration and we thank him for that foresight. These fliers are to be pasted at every nook and cranny. We are taking this campaign as personal as a political campaign” the Council Boss said.

Archibong disclosed that the Governor has instructed Local Government Chairmen to set up task force to monitor their Local Government, adding that he will chair the task force team that will ensure strict compliance with safety measures in Eket.

“I will personally Chair the taskforce team because there is no information in the Local Government that doesn’t get to me very fast.

“I admonish members of the team to report daily to me even if there is no suspected case of Covid 19 at the end of the day. Let a text message or phone call get to me that there is no report. That’s how important it is so that I can inform the appropriate quarters.” Archibong said.

The Chairman reiterated that all avenues would be deployed to sensitize the people, including radio jingles and town criers and noted that more awareness materials and sanitizers will be printed and purchased for distribution in all markets, wards, village heads, councilors and strategic locations in Eket.

The Director of Health, Uwem Akpan thanked the Chairman for being health friendly and admonished Traditional Rulers, Councilors, Health Workers in the Local Government to take sensitization seriously.

The Disease Surveillance Notification Officer, Udeme Pius, appreciated the Chairman for his prompt response to the people of Eket towards the corona virus disease.

He said there is no COVID-19 patient in the Local Government Area and asked the people to comply with safety measures and eschew fear.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, Essien Ndueso, described the disease as one that is nondiscriminatory adding that, “the corona virus disease does not select the people it affects and it will be a very bad history that it emanated from Eket.

“We must do all we can to sensitize the people to take precautionary measures seriously” Mr Ndueso noted.

He thanked the Chairman for keying into the drive of Governor Udom Emmanuel and reiterated that the Church and political class should take the sensitization seriously.

The Eket APC Chapter Chairman, Willie Etuk, thanked the Council Boss for his efforts and assured that he will contribute his quota in the sensitization programme as the Corona virus does not respect party line.
