Police Arrests Woman for Buying New-Born Baby for N500,000

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 50-year old woman who allegedly bought a new born baby for the sum of N500, 000 in Onitsha.

The spokesman for the Police, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, noted that the arrest was made on Wednesday, June 12, following intelligence reports from members of the public.

Speaking to newsmen on Saturday, June 15, Mohammed noted that the new-born girl was stolen from the mother shortly after delivery, with the connivance of another suspect.

“On the 12/6/2019 at about 7:pm, Police detectives attached to Awada division arrested one Juliet Onweagba ‘f’ aged 50 years of No 3 Onyekwore Street Awada”, he disclosed.

“Suspect conspired with one Edith Ewudo aged 49 years of Orsumoghu street Awada and bought a new born baby girl at the sum of N550,000 from one Ndidi Egeonu ‘f’ aged 35 years of Odume Obosi”, he reveaed.

“The baby was stolen from the mother one Udechukwu Faith ‘f’ aged 23 years of 3-3 Onitsha shortly after delivery on the 2/6/2019”. He added

Mr. Mohammed however noted that the case was still under investigation, while assuring that the suspects would be charged to court in the end.
