The Akwa Ibom State Transport Company (AKTC) lease vehicle operators’ Multipurpose cooperative society has held her first Annual General Meeting, AGM.

The AGM which took place on Tuesday, August 3, at Bezaleel hall, off Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo also witnessed the formal election of the society’s management committee and the council of inspection to lead for three years.

he election followed the official dissolution of the former management committee led by the pioneer President, Obong Michael Ibanga.

Elected into offices were: Obong Michael Ibanga-President, Bassey Archibong-Vice President, Sylvester Nyong-Secretary, Idorenyin Inyang-Treasurer, Peter Essiet-Director of Operations, be Ifiok Ekpa-Financial Secretary, Godwin Robert-Welfare Officer, Nkanga Nkanga-PRO, Ekong Etok-Provost, Inyene Udofia-Auditor and Godwin Anthony-Ex-officio.

Also elected into the Council of Inspection were Michael Udoh-Chairman, Joseph Mbaba-Secretary and Emmanuel Akpan as Member while Aniekan Nathaniel was confirmed as Head of Blowers and assisted by Dominic Udodom.

Presenting his opening remarks, the President of the Cooperative, Obong Michael Ibanga, said the AGM is like a dream come true considering the series of turbulence they have passed through.

He appreciated the group for their steadfastness and firmness which he said has brought about the success of the society, and pledged to do more for the group’s growth, having been given the privilege to serve again.

Meanwhile, Obong Ibanga said the society is faced with the challenges of acquiring lands to aid their loading at Aba and the construction of their secretariat.

Addressing members of the group, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Rural Development, Dr Helen Ukpabio expressed delight that the society has been able to weather the storm and is reaping the fruit of its firmness. She praised them for their commitment, dedication and for letting peace reign in the society.

Ukpabio said Governor Udom Emmanuel being aware of the group’s existence was impressed with their success and is solidly behind them.

While appreciating the former executive members not misleading the people or abandoning the MPCS, he charged the newly elected to also be dedicated in rendering services for the success and development of the society.

Also speaking, the Director of Co-operative, Mrs Imaobong Ibanga said she is astounded that the storms witnessed by the organization have not pulled down the multipurpose cooperative society but was rather making it wax strong each day.

Meanwhile, the Vice President of Akwa Ibom Cooperative Federation, AKCOFED, Pastor Asuquo Jonah who conducted the election advised members of the group to adhere to the rules binding them to aid their rapid growth.

Members in their reaction, expressed happiness with the outcome of this year’s AGM and prayed God to grant the leaders foresight and wisdom in leading them. Those who spoke were Samuel Udoh, Grace Aniekan Tom among others.

Gracing the event were the Managing Director, AKTC, Mr Nsikak Johnny represented by the Transport Manager, Mr Uduak Akaninyene; International Secretary, Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, Akparawa Fiokidaha Umoh; Mrs Patricia Udofia, Vice Chairman, Nsit Atai local government area, Hon. Idorenyin Inyang among others.
