The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has reinstated the two Local Government Chairpersons it suspended weeks ago.

Elder Imoh Okon of Uyo Local Government Council and Lady Emem Ibanga of Nsit Atai Local Government Council were suspended following series of petitions written against them by some Councilors and other elected officials in their councils.

However, following the House of Assembly’s Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs’ report, the Nsit Atai Council Chair was reinstated on Tuesday, July 14 , while her Uyo counterpart was reinstated on Thursday, July 16 at the plenary held on both days.

Their reinstatement was however hinged on their agreement to follow all stipulated financial guidelines for Local Government Councils in the state.

They were also told to ensure that all financial entitlements for each of the elected officials be paid before the end of their tenure and evidence of such payments forwarded to the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
