The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly at its Wednesday, November 13 plenary, condemned the recent killing of one Godwin Thomas also known as Sabata, whose sad event occurred on the 8th of November 2019, by an unidentified officer of the law during a traditional marriage ceremony at Ndiya Ikot Ukap, in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.

This was in response to a motion raised by the member representing Etinan state constituency, Rt. Hon. Aniefiok Denis.

Hon. Denis who pleaded with the house to swing into action in investigating the case noted that the deceased was not a law breaker.

“It is unfortunate that the young man whose wife is pregnant and has a child of 3 years old, a mother and a father, has been killed. He is the one providing for the family. Mr speaker, he is not a kidnapper, he is not an armed robber, he struggles to ensure that he keeps food on the table of those ones that he caters for every other day, but unfortunately, he has been killed and we are yet to find out who killed him”.

Denis also noted that the deceased was an active member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and one whose campaign efforts should not go unnoticed, pressed for the prosecution of his killers.

Following this, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, assured that the House would do all it can to bring the killer to book.

He equally condemned the act and called on security agencies in the state to make conscious efforts in arresting and prosecuting the culprit.

He directed the clerk to communicate the wish of the House to appropriate authorities, while imploring the House Committee on security to interface with the state police command to ensure the success of this.
