The Akwa Ibom State government has ordered the immediate closure of its land, air and sea borders.
This is coming on the heels of the widespread global pandemic, COVID-19.
A release issued and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Ekuwem Ekuwem, on Thursday, March 26, ordered Workers under the state government employ to stay at home for one (1 ) week with effect from Monday, March 30, adding that their salaries for the month of March will be paid on Thursday, March 26.
it states further that “all borders and roads leading in and out of the state are closed with immediate effect; except for the transportation of food items”.
“Markets are to remain open for sale of foodstuff and essential items only”, while “Churches are strongly requested to fast and pray for God’s mercies on Sunday, March, 29.
It further advises residents and citizens to apply the preventive measures previously announced, urging that “prevention is better than cure”.
Meanwhile, the State airline, Ibom Air has been mandated to suspend all scheduled flight services from midnight of Friday, March 27, 2020.
