A’Ibom Emerges Overall Best at 22nd National Jet Competition

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Nse Essien on Tuesday, March 10 received Students from the State who emerged overall best at the just concluded 22nd National Jet Competition held in Lagos State. 

In his address, the Education Boss thanked the Governor of the state for providing an enabling environment for academic excellence, adding that the performance of the students was evident that the Education sector of the State is doing well, particularly the teachers.

He congratulated the students for winning various prices and bringing trophies home, while reiterating that government was striving to improve the academic environment and overall outcome.

He hinted that Akwa Ibom State government is embarking on lofty projects that will transform the State such as Ibom Air, MRO facility at the airport as well as the Ibom Deep Sea port, all of which will be hinged on quality education.

Essien urged the students to cash in on available opportunities by taking their studies seriously.  

While setting the tone for the event, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Helen Ante welcomed the contingent to the Ministry and thanked God for granting the students the wisdom and intelligence to come out tops among all the states in the federation.

She enjoined them not to rest on their oars but strive for more as there was no limit to what a studious and committed student could achieve.

In their goodwill messages, the Commandant of Airforce School, Wing Commander A. A Odok said that in line with the human capacity development vision of the Chief of Air Staff, they will continue to align with the State government in providing quality Education in the State.

Similarly, the Desk Officer of JETS in the Ministry, Mrs. Nse Ekpo thanked the Governor, the Education Commissioner, Permanent Secretary and the entire ministry for the passion to move education forward in the State and pledged to do more when given another opportunity to represent the State.  

Certificates, gift items and the trophies won were presented by the Honourable Commissioner to the contingents and thereafter a demonstration of a pipeline vandalism detector developed by students of Noble Int’l School was carried out. The invention was adjudged the 3rd best in the National Theme Project category with the title: “Science, Technology and Innovation: a panacea to pipeline vandalization in Nigeria”

Delivering the Vote of thanks, Director, Educational Development Services, Barr. Asuquo Selong thanked God for enabling the young minds make the state proud. He lauded the Commissioner and Permanent Secretary for their immensely contributions to the achievements recorded as well as the Staff of JETS to assisting in developing the innovations that earn the students national acclaim.

The Akwa Ibom State contingent was made up of students from Govt. Secondary School, Afaha Eke; Airforce Comprehensive School, Uyo; Nobles Int’l School, Beulah Int’l School and TopFaith Int’l School who won 1st position in Free Choice Project, 1st Position in subject Quiz (Computer), 2nd Position in free choice project, Secondary Category, 2nd position in Subject Quiz (Basic Technology), Basic Category, 2nd Position in subject Quiz (Basic Technology), Senior Category, 2nd Position in Subject Quiz (Mathematics), Primary Category, 3rd Position in subject Quiz (Mathematics), Primary Category, 3rd Position in Subject Quiz (Biology), Senior Category, 3rd Position in Subject Quiz (Technology), Senior Category, 3rd Position in Inter-State Quiz (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics and English Languages)

The 22nd National JETS Competition also showcased Akwa Ibom State as having won the 3rd position (senior Category) in Inter-State Quiz, 2nd Position (Senior Category) in Subject Quiz (Computer), 2nd Position (Senior Technology) in Subject Quiz (Technology), 3rd Position (Senior Category) in Subject Quiz (Chemistry), 3rd position in National Theme Project, 3rd position in Free Choice Projects including team primary and junior secondary category.
