…Akpabio, Udoedehe, Enwang Clash over Party Structure

The Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently brewing with crisis arising from factions created by its leaders.

According to members of the Party who expressed worry for the future of the Party, the trio of Sen. James Udoedehe, Group Capt. Sam Enwang and Sen. Godswill Akpabio are making it difficult for them to know who should be taken serious as leader of the Party. They expressed that while some members of the APC are loyalists to Udoedehe, others are answerable to Akpabio and some to Sam Enwang.

Speaking to this reporter, one of the APC members in Uyo lamented the state of things, while noting that the leaders were making the Party look disorganized.

“The worse is that they have never called the Party members together in one place. Today, a certain group will be assembled at Sen. Udoedehe’s residence, tomorrow another group goes to Akpabio’s residence and the next day, another group is at Sam Enwang’s residence. Where will all these take us to?”, he lamented.

“As we speak, other Parties have started putting their houses in order ahead of 2023 but we’re here being used as tools for factions, power and influence in this one Party. This is not going to help us one bit”, he said.

Subscribing to his perception, one of the women leaders in Uyo Federal Constituency who pleaded anonymity attributed the play of things to the quest for who controls power in the APC.

“All these are tilted toward who controls the party structure. We know that Sam Enwang has no power to convene a stakeholders meeting although he a BOT member. We want someone like Udoedehe who is agile and can command influence and has the power”, she said.

However, those of Akpabio’s camp disclosed that the Niger Delta Minister was most qualified, arising from his antecedents and by virtue of being the highest political office holder in the State.

“Akpabio has more connection, charisma and influence and that’s what the Party needs come 2023”, one of them said.

Meanwhile, a close source in Udoedehe’s camp hinted that the Pastor was not going to surrender his leadership of the Party to anyone.

“We all know that Udoedehe has come a long way in his fight for the cause of APC in the State. He will not allow Akpabio to divide and destroy the Party or sell it off and reduce it to nothing”, he maintained.
