2019 Election: IPAC Urges Losers to Accept Defeat

The Akwa Ibom State chairman of Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC), Pastor Ekomobong Akpan has admonished the losers of the just concluded general elections to close ranks and accept defeat in spirit of sportsmanship for the interest of the State.

He made the call while speaking on “The benefits of conducting free, fair credible and violent free 2019 General elections in Akwa Ibom State “recently, at the Ibom e-library, IBB way, Uyo.

He said it was necessary for losers of the election to collaborate with Governor Udom Emmanuel in the State’s interest, adding that the interest of the State supersedes every other person’s.

The IPAC Boss who doubles as the state chairman of Action Democracy, commended the security personnel for their performance before, during and after the election which he said resulted in the violent-free election in the state.

He also acknowledged the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barr. Mike Igini for his role in ensuring a free, fair and credible election. “Barr. Mike Igini sustained a good relationship with IPAC during the election process and he deserves to be commended”, he said.

In his remarks, the state Director, National Orientation Agency, and Chairman on the occasion, Pastor Enoh Uyoh, charged parties who lost the elections to accept the results as the collective will of the people and put on a spirit of sportsmanship.

Also speaking, on “free, fair, credible and violent-free elections in Akwa Ibom State”, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (admin) of the University of Uyo, Prof. Nyaudo Ndaeyo, explained that a free and fair election is one without censorship from any organ of government. “The purpose of the election is for the electorates to carefully select their leaders, and free and fair election does not come from the moon rather, from people. And Nigeria should maintain the process of free elections; those found infringing on electoral laws should be punished according to the law” he stated.

He however averred that God fatherism, religious and ethnic biases should be discouraged to enhance national unity and growth, while calling on relevant authorities to pay attention to the disengagement of youths in electoral violence.

High point of the event was the presentation of Awards to distinguished members of the public for contributing meaningfully for the success of the just concluded elections.
