A’Ibom Tribunal: Nsima Ekere Plans on Forgery of REC’s Signature to make Headway

The Akwa Ibom State All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2019 governorship election, Obong Nsima Ekere, has concluded plans to forge the signature of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Resident Commissioner (REC) in order to break through with victory at the elections petition tribunal.

A source and member of the Nsima Ekere’s legal team who disclosed this to Platinum.ng on anonymity, said that the move was necessary to help Ekere prove his claim of having won 26 Local Government Areas in the March polls.

“He is forging this signature on the result sheet they purportedly wrote from Ukana claiming they won 26 Local Government Areas so that they can tender it in the court”, our source said.

“Having realized that no result can be accepted in the Tribunal without INEC’s official signature, they decided to do this before their case is thrown out of the court for lack of merit”.

It would be recalled that prior to the elections, the INEC Resident Commissioner, Barr. Mike Igini, had countersigned all original result sheets, making it impossible for the manipulation of result sheets.

“This made it impossible for them to manipulate the result sheets or swap in the sheets they wrote for Ukana”, our source said.

“Having met with him severally and pleaded with him to name his price and allow them have their way, which he refused, they resorted to sponsored protest, calling for his redeployment which was also unheeded by the National body”, our source maintained.

“Meanwhile, the State INEC had declared materials for the conduct of the elections intact, despite allegations that the materials have been tampered with and were made inaccessible”.

“The INEC had assured that they will cooperate with aggrieved parties to ensure that all reservations are attended and everyone is satisfied with the outcome of the election”, our source said.
