The 25-kilometer Uyo-Ikot Ekpene road project was inherited at about 5% of construction by the present administration, with major areas requiring high level of technical expertise and demands for compensation.

Despite the controversies surrounding the project, Governor Emmanuel who does not play politics with development of the state, crossed hurdles to ensure all issues were settled peacefully and compensations paid to deserving individuals and institutions.

Also, Governor Udom Emmanuel, in considering the strategic importance of the road as the main highway that connects the South-East political zone with Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, has invested more money into the project which is now at 95% stage of completion.
