…Raise alarm over Akpabio’s plot to kill PDP Stakeholders in the area
The people of Essien Udim Local Government Area have warned Senator Godswill Akpabio to desist from further advertising his dwindling political status through press interviews that deepen his failing image before right thinking members of the public.
The people gave the warning during a World Press Conference on Wednesday, March 13, at the NUJ Press Centre in Uyo.
Speaking on the militarization of Democracy, rigging of Elections and assault on INEC officials, Ad-hoc Staff and Civil voters by the former Senate Minority Leader in Essien Udim during the just concluded governorship and House of Assembly elections, the delegation was led by the political leader of Essien Udim, Chief Afanghideh.
In the team were Prince Ukpong Akpabio, Essien Udim Council chairman -Udo Isobara, Mr. Ese Umoh and other political stakeholders in the area.
The people alleged that Akpabio has instructed his killer squad to kill any PDP Stakeholder in Essien Udim L.G.A, even after the elections and urged the public to hold him responsible in the event of any arrest, detention or death of any PDP Stakeholder in Essien Udim LGA.
In a press statement made available to newsmen, they stated that after INEC had distributed materials to the polling units; Senator Godswill Akpabio used military men in armoured vehicles and “Policemen” in 6 hillux vehicles to pack election materials and ad-hoc Staff of INEC in some Wards and Units into his Coaster Bus and took them to the compound of Barr. Ibanga Akpabio where APC members thumb-printed the ballot papers in favour of APC.
They listed the affected Wards/Units to include: all the Units in Ukana West Ward 2, all the Units in Ukana West Ward, all the Units in Ukana East Ward1, all the Units in Ekpenyong Ward 1 as well as all the Units in Odoro Ikot Ward.
According to them, the above malpractice was immediately reported by PDP Agents in the affected Units, Wards and Local Government to the Electoral Officer, Essien Udim Local Government Area in writing.
They added that Akpabio used his brother, SUPOL Idorenyin Akpabio, and O/C of the Anti-Robbery at the State Police Headquarters, in company of other policemen to shoot gun from Unit to Unit in the said Wards to carry election materials and equally arrested some PDP supporters who were detained on the day of election at the Essien Udim Divisional Police Cell, Nto Nsek.
Akpabio’s kinsmen further mentioned that at about 10.00pm on the day of election, the Electoral Officer, Returning Officer and Collation Officer in the area were seriously beaten up in the Collation Room by Senator Godswill Akpabio and his killer squad of SUPOL Idorenyin Akpabio, Chief Godwin Afangideh, Barr. Ibanga Akpabio, Hon. Emmanuel S. Akpan, Elder Ntiedo Usoro, Mr. Steve Leo Akpan, Hon. Ndifreke Idung, Rtd. Brigadier Etido Essien Ekpo, Hon. Raphael Udoma, Mr. Udim Akpan Udousoro, Mr. Emmanuel Inyangetor, Mr. Akan George, Barr. Paulinus James Idio, Mr. Joseph C. Tombere and Hon. Nse Effiong Ntuen who was the APC candidate for the State House of Assembly, and were held hostage at gun-point to change results of the election of the Wards already collated that didn’t favour the APC.
They posited that before the Election, Hon. Nse Effiong Ntuen had been boasting openly that as far as APC is concerned, the elections would be “do or die”; which they say prompted them (APC) to manhandle some PDP Agents and stakeholders in the area by beating them with weapons and plastic seats.
The PDP stakeholders in Essien Udim expressed dismay of over the acts of man inhumanity to man, meted by Senator Akpabio and his team on the Chapter Chairman of PDP, Hon. Cyril Udoh, whom they said was hospitalized and in a state of coma; including other PDP supporters who were also inflicted with serious injuries.
According to the people: “where the elections actually held and results counted and collated, the PDP actually won. These included: Okon Ward, Odoro Ikot Ward 1, Ikpe Ward, Ekpenyong Ward 2, Afaha Ward and Adiasim Ward”, adding that they have duplicates of Result sheets to authenticate their claim.
The people therefore rejected totally the published Results of the two Wards: Adiasim and Ukana East where results was said to have been produced under duress.
They commiserated with Corps Members and other Ad-hoc Staff who lost their valuables, identity cards, phones, and other properties to the mayhem birthed by Senator Akpabio.
