Members of the newly reconstituted Governing Council of the Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit have been charged to work towards repositioning the institution.
The Secretary to the State Government Emmanuel Ekuwem gave the charge on Monday, August 11, during an interaction with the Chairman and Members of the Governing Council of the College at Government House, Uyo.
The SSG on behalf of the Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel mandated members of the council to commence work immediately while awaiting the formal inauguration of the council alongside other boards and commissions in no distant time.
According to Dr Ekuwem, with the antecedents and track records of members of the Governing council, he is confident that they would bring their wealth of experience to bear in their assigned responsibilities.
While reminding them of the core mandate of the institution, which he said, is to train future teachers for the state and the country, the State Chief Scribe enjoined them to give utmost support to the Provost of the institution in the revamping of the state-owned college.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Barr Bassey Dan Abia (Jnr) expressed appreciation to Governor Udom Emmanuel for finding them worthy, qualified and competent to serve the state in that capacity and promised to work assidously to justify the confidence reposed in them.
Barr Abia commended the Secretary to the State Government for the “quality of support” he is giving to the present administration and thanked the State Governor for bringing one of the best brains in the mould of Dr Ekuwem into his administration.
Members of the Governing Council at the meeting were Dr Enobong Joshua, Obonganwan Mandu Abia and Brig. General Peter Ekpenyong.
The meeting also had in attendance, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Enobong Mbobo.
