According to Dr Thompson, the event which held at Ibom Hall, Uyo, with the theme “Building a Sustainable Future through Skill Acquisition,” with over 2000 female youth from the 31 local government areas of the state in attendance is a watershed on the determined quest by the First Lady to achieve maximum empowerment of the female gender.
While applauding Dr Martha Emmanuel for what she termed her extraordinary efforts in making women count in the society and reducing unemployment in the state by making women and youth economically viable against all odds, the EARCOM boss also thanked the Udom Emmanuel-led adminstration for providing conducive environment for the womenfolk to thrive and supporting the efforts of the First Lady through her pet project, FEYReP.
The chairman of EARCOM maintained that, Dr Martha Emmanuel stands tall in her grassroots-oriented programs which are making so much impact, encouraged the First Lady to keep on with the good work and called on the women and Female Youth to continue to support and pray for her and the success of the Completion Agenda of the governor.
She further added that, our families, especially the children and women, have experienced great improvement in all spheres of life through the ingenuity of Her Excellency through empowerment targeted at making women economically relevant in their families and the society at large by making them productive through skills acquisition.
Dr Thompson who extolled the Get a Skill program, describing it as transformational, also enjoined the beneficiaries to ensure they live up to expectations, maximise the opportunity to learn and acquire relevant Vocational skills that can make them become independent entrepreneurs and job creators rather than beggars.
She argued that, achieving entrepreneurial skills will help the female youth to become wealth creators and not engage in social vices such as drug abuse, prostitution, begging or become liabilities that are vulnerable to sex trafficking, rape and gender based violence.
Dr Thompson explained that, EARCOM under her watch will reinforce the campaign for socially responsible citizens and will reach out to the female youth structure in the State to imbibe the campaign against social vices.
It will be recalled that, while declaring the training programme open, the wife of governor said, the skill acquisition which would be done in batches, will train and empower over 5000 young women in various fields and as well showcase their talents to the world.
She said the female youth occupy an integral part of the society thus, should not give room to be stereotyped as sex slaves or good-for-nothing gender, but should always endeavor to acquire skills that would position them to compete favorably in the society.
The First Lady disclosed that the training will focus on sought-after skills such as fashion design, bead making, Agro-production, ICT, Interior design etc. would afford the young women opportunities to secure a better future while weaving it around the digital economy which according to her relies greatly on critical thinking, innovation, financial and emotional intelligence and creativity.
The Wife of the Governor said, the “Get a Skill Initiative” is in line with her mission to promote skill-based tutoring and entrepreneurship for our future mothers who in turn will create jobs that will drive economic growth, innovation, improve social conditions and address social and environmental challenges in the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 Agenda.
