Investigations have confirmed that the former Governor of Akwa Ibom, Senator Godswill Akpabio has called to beg Governor Udom Emmanuel when it became clear that he will not be returning to the Red Chambers.
Reports reaching Platinum.ng has it that Senator Akpabio lost the Ikot Ekpene senatorial district election by more than 65,000 votes to a former deputy governor of the state, Engr. Ekpenyong.
The votes stood at 68,867 to 123,090 in favour of Akpabio’s opponent.
Sources at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters mentioned that when election results from Essien Udim arrived, a total of 105,555 votes were counted, while the number of accredited voters for the election in the local government area from card reader summary was 14,467.
In a related development, sources close to Governor Emmanuel said the Governor told them, he has received multiple calls from Senator Akpabio, pleading to intervene on the outcome of the elections.
“Akpabio has been calling, begging Governor Udom Emmanuel to intervene on his behalf. But the Governor has turned down his request.” the source remarks.
Another source said “The Governor is no more taking his calls, he called the Speaker (Onofiok Luke), pleading for a soft landing.
“Even Unoma has been calling the wife of the Governor, with cries and tears. But all these will definitely come to nothing,” the source concluded.
