As part of his empowerment programs and drive to impact on the lives of his constituents, the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East, Obong Bassey Albert (OBA) has launched the second phase of his scholarship scheme.
Disclosing this to the media over the weekend, organizers of the scholarship programme, said the qualifying examination for the scheme will take place in April.
The release advices students who are interested in applying for the scheme to check the Senator’s website, www.senatoroba.org, from the 1st of April, 2019, for the application form.
According to the management committee, aside from thousands of request from potential beneficiaries, the decision to launch the second phase of the programme, was hinged on the premise that about 80% of the first batch of beneficiaries would have graduated from their respective programs by the end of the 2018/2019 academic session, and it was imperative to open the platform for new set of beneficiaries.
It would be recalled that 81 beneficiaries emerged from the first qualifying examination held in May 2016, as first batch of beneficiaries, in which over 2,000 students sat for the qualifying examination. This took the number of students sponsored by the Senator in various higher institutions of learning to 140, with 59 already in existence as at the time of launch of the scheme.
The result of an appraisal done for the scheme in December 2018 showed that two of the first set of beneficiaries graduated with first class honours, while 37 others graduated with second class upper honours. The programme also saw three of the beneficiaries complete their medical programmes, while four others passed professional examination and were inducted as Pharmacists.
The assessment also revealed that one of the beneficiaries, Wisdom Ibokette, who bagged a first class in Civil Engineering, was the best graduating student in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Uyo, for the 2017/2018 set, having graduated with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.7.
The application is open for students in state and federal owned institutions of higher learning. Eligible students from the nine LGAs in Uyo Senatorial District are encouraged to apply for the scholarship.
Similarly, in response to numerous request received and several correspondences in his constituency office, as well as reports from the social media, Senator Albert in his magnanimity has directed that concession be given to undergraduates from other Senatorial Districts, with excellent academic records, in a bid to encourage them.
