Making the appeal on behalf of the professional women body, NAWOJ State Chairperson, Mrs. Uduak p Ekong observed that the sentiments and perceptions of Nigerians about the vaccine was unimpressive and could sabotage the government’s efforts at curtailing the spread of the killer-virus.
Stressing the rigour involved in managing a positive case and the expensiveness of the treatment required, the woman rights activist made a passionate call for the prevention of the virus to forestall its accompanying financial burden.
“A COVID-19 patient will have to deposit N3M in some Specialist Hospitals before being attended to so, if the government is generous enough to provide such expensive vaccine for free, we should be responsible enough to appreciate and accept it”.
“Take the vaccines when they are brought here. See it as other preventive immunizations against diseases and don’t be carried away by what people are saying”, she harped.
While maintaining that the Corona Virus was still very prevalent in the air, Mrs. Ekong called on the women journalists to continue in adherence to the safety precautions against it.
“The virus is still very much in the air and we must keep to our safety protocols”, she emphasized.
Appreciating the female pen pushers for always supporting the activities of the Association, the Chairperson called for more participation at fora, trainings and workshops organized by related bodies, noting that such appearances would foster effective partnership with NAWOJ in future.
At the meeting, the National Secretary of NAWOJ, Mrs. Helen Udofa was congratulated on her recognition by Wife of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Dr. Martha Emmanuel on the occasion of the 2021 International Women’s Day Celebration held at Ibom Hall on Monday, March 6.
Mrs. Udofa of the Pioneer Newspaper was recognized and awarded for being the first female in Akwa Ibom and South South, Nigeria, to reach the seat of the National Secretary of the Association.
