A copy of a letter from the Diplomatic Head of the Commission to Nigeria and other African countries, Ambassador Friday Sani, dated March 16, 2019, and made available to newsmen on Sunday, April, 28, indicates that the appointment of the Speaker is in recognition of his resolute efforts in the stability of Nigeria and his firm leadership of the Nigerian Senate which he described as being “among the most proactive parliaments across the world”.

Another reason given for the Speaker’s nomination is the “maturity” he “displayed in the face of an obvious provocation in his constituency during the last Presidential and National Assembly elections”, the letter stated.
