Residents of Katsina State have been given one week free to open accounts with banks of their choice in the state.
The State Governor, Aminu Masari, approved the free-week when members of the state steering committee on National Financial Inclusion Strategy, visited him on Thursday, June 20.
The essence of the allowance given to residents is to help the Katsina state branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) meet its target of a 20% rise in bank account opening by the year 2020.
Governor Masari during the visit was worried about the CBN’s submission that 60% of those in the North West region are way behind those in the South West in terms of financial inclusion strategy, where Lagos State alone constitutes 19%.
He therefore gave his word to support his state’s inclusion in the financial strategy.
