Residents and people of Nsukara Offot Community in Uyo Local Government area have cried out for help, calling on the state government and security agencies to beef up surveillance as their once peaceful community has become a theatre of terror where residents no longer sleep with their eyes closed.
Reports of murder, raping of women and armed robbery attacks by some yet to be apprehended hoodlums operating in the community has been a cause of concern to the people of the community.
Our correspondent who interacted with some members of Nsukara Offot Community , who, for fear of their lives spoke on condition of anonymity cried out that, there is an organized killer gang of rapists believed to be operating a cell in the community.
As the Nsukara Offot community lives in daily fear of the unknown of who the next victim would be, our correspondent gathered that, women are the main targets and victims of the killer gang. The hoodlums abduct, rape and murder their victims according to the people who narrated their ordeal. Of recent, an 18 year old girl was abducted and gang raped to death while another who operates a POS machine was trailed, attacked, left for dead with several deep machete cuts while she was robbed of the sum of 200, 000 Naira and her phone.
A resident in the community who gave her name as Esther narrated how a shop owner was attacked last week by the hoodlums. Another female teacher was attacked in broad day light while on her way to school, and luck ran out of the assailant as he was apprehended by students after inflicting injury on the woman. The assailant who was caught with 30 sim cards in his custody was taken to the village Head of Nsukara Offot and after some pressure from the community, he was handed over to the police for further investigation and to trace his accomplice’s.
Some members of the community who pleaded anonymity have alleged that, the village Head of Nsukara Offot, Etteidung Cletus Benson, Chairman of the Village Council, Obong Ima Usua and the Youth Leader/ Community Liaison Officer, Mr Victor Essien have not been proactive or taken the rising cases of insecurity and vicious attacks seriously, leaving the village exposed to continuous rampage by the bloodthirsty killers.
The residents say the previous cases of unresolved attacks and murders are still pending, alleging that, some powerful individuals are shielding the criminals who are involved in these crimes against humanity fr arrest, investigation and prosecution.
Some of the victims of recent attacks include, Esther Stephen, Loveth Okon, Manduwem Bassey, Ikwo Victor Okon, Mrs Etieyen Okon and daughter, Rebecca Aloysius Okon.
Our correspondent gathered that, the remains of some of the dead victims are still in the mortuary. Meanwhile, as some tenants are massively moving out of Nsukara Offot community for fear of the killer gang on the prowl, the indigenes have cried out to the AkwaIbom State Police Command and The State Government to come to the rescue, set up a high powered panel to investigate and unravel the systematic killings and gang rape ongoing in the community.
Other residents have also called on the Village Head, Eteidung Cletus Benson to rise to the occasion and restore peace in the community which seems to have taken flight under his reign.
