Purported Agreement for a Single Term with Obong Bassey Inuaeyen: Setting the record straight
I ordinarily do not like to take to the public domain to address issues that could otherwise be resolved internally. However, I consider it expedient to do this in order that the general public and especially the entirety of Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency may not misinformed or led astray.
Consequently, this is to notify the general public of a planned misleading communiqué sponsored by Obong Bassey Inuaeyen concerning the Ikono/Ini House of Representatives in 2023.
I wish to state for a fact that I have had series of meetings with Obong Bassey Inuaeyen, to discuss issues concerning the Local, State and Federal levels of government that hinge on the progress of the people of Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency. In the last of such meetings I had with Obong Inuaeyen on Thursday, 2nd September 2021, we discussed the Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency seat in 2023 General Elections where I maintained, as I have always done at every opportunity, that at the “appropriate time” my support will go to ODORO IKONO (Wards 6-10) for equity and fairness.
I also noted that there is a whole lot to be done in the Constituency, ranging from human capital development, infrastructure, and the much needed representation.
The Election in question is more than a year from now, and as stakeholders, we have a more important responsibility of ensuring the success of the ‘Completion Agenda’ and succession plan of His Excellency, the Governor of our State, which is targeted at ensuring a peaceful co-existence and transition for the betterment of our dear State.
Unfortunately, the level of desperation by the supporters of an intending aspirant who hail from the same ward as Prof. Ini Udoka, a past House of Representatives Member of the Constituency, is baffling. It will be remembered that Prof Udoka from Ikpe Ward 2 served out an 8-year term. That an individual from the same ward is aspiring for the seat is unfair, undemocratic and does not represent justice and equity for the other wards in Ini Local Government Area, especially the Odoro Ikono axis (Wards 6-10).
It is even more shocking that Obong Inuaeyen is putting together a communique whose content is quite different from our discussion as my position is never to give up on the people.
I wish to assure all the good people of Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency, that I shall continue to do all things by the grace of God, whenever and however possible for the collective good of our people. This is the mandate that was given to me, and is still subsisting even as our people continue to yearn for effective representation and dividends of democracy.
I therefore urge all stakeholders and our teeming supporters to disregard any purported information or communique claiming that I will not represent the people or stand for the 2023 election as a member of the House of Representatives.
I urge the general public to please disregard any such statement credited to me, as it is very surprising why someone I regard as a father would descend so low to be so manipulated and in turn become manipulative.
I pray God to continually bless Ikono/ Ini Federal Constituency, Akwa Ibom State and our dear Country Nigeria.
Rep. Emmanuel Ukpong-udo
Member, House of Representatives
