Professor Maria Ikorok of the University of Uyo, the erstwhile Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board (AK-SUBEB), has been meritoriously honoured with an excellence award, Adatusunganwan Ifiok Annang by the Supreme Traditional Institution of Annang Nationality, the Afe Nkuku Annang, at Essien Udim Local Government Council grounds, Afaha Ikot Ebak.
The Traditional Institution reasoned that the award is in appreciation of her commitment to quality education, statesmanship, exceptional leadership qualities, patriotism and selfless services to Annang nation and Humanity in general.
The award was issued during the event marking the 98th birthday celebration and installation of HRM, Obong Cosmas Akpan as Akwa Akuku Annang.
The recognition can be traced to the impressive accomplishments recorded in all programmes of the Basic Education sub-sector in the State during her tenure as Board Chairman which are still very obvious in our basic schools across the state; the feat which the recipient attained, enjoyed Governor Udom’s support and strong motivation.
It is on record that Prof Ikorok has served as Secretary Transition Committee, Obot Akara LGA, Chairman State Secondary Education Board and other position of responsibilities, where the University Don’ sterling performance earned her numerous accolades.
The event featured presentation of awards to His Excellency the Governor, Wife of Governor and the Deputy Governor as well as cutting of birthday cake and launching of an auto-biography “Not About the Power” by HRM Obong Cosmas Akpan.
