Prof. Eno Ibanga Unveils NUJ Standard Magazine
. . .Assures of govt continuous partnership with the Union.
It was a delight to have the State Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, as a Special Guest during the May Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council where he unveiled the latest edition of the NUJ Standard Magazine.
The Hall at the Press Centre, Information Drive, where the Congress held, was filled to capacity on Monday, May 31, 2021, despite the heavy rainfall which earlier seemed the usual massive attendance would be threatened.
Prof. Ibanga, the man who has been working behind the scenes to interprete Governor Udom Emmanuel’s vision in infrastructural development, walked in, mid- way into the meeting, accompanied by some members of the State Exco of the Union, to a rousing welcome by the journalists.
Shortly before leading the State Exco and others to unveil the new edition of the Standard Magazine, a publication of the State Council of the NUJ, the Commissioner appreciated the members of the pen profession’ for carrying out their duties while upholding the ethics of the profession.
He commended them for working as partners to ensure good governance in the state, noting that constructive criticisms of public office holders are necessary to keep them in check.
The Works and Fire Service helmsman assured that the state government would continue to maintain the robust relationship it has with the Press, stressing that Governor Emmanuel means well for the people and by extension, the state.
While acknowledging that the State Government is doing its best to touch every part of the state with infrastructural development, Prof. Ibanga said that projects embarked by the present administration would be completed before the end of the tenure.
According to him, “This Government works the talk, we don’t only talk. Let me assure us that there is no Local Government Area that Government has not touched, if it is not a main highway, there are short interventions that have touched the lives of our people and by the time this government will exit, you will notice changes that will make Akwa Ibom a better place.
“When I resumed work in my Ministry and took some people around project sites, i discovered that a lot of people do not know the road network in this state. Most people do not know what is happening and it is good to criticize but let’s do so constructively”.
He urged them to highlight government’s efforts at ensuring a better life for the people, pledging that his Ministry will also work with the NUJ as partners to successfully actualize the Completion Agenda of the state Administration.
Earlier, the State Chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Amos Etuk, welcomed the Commissioner to Congress, noting that Prof. Ibanga has consolidated on superior performance and hinted that the latest edition of the NUJ Standard magazine was made possible by the Ministry of Works and Fire Service.
Comrade Etuk expressed appreciation to the State NUJ Secretary, Comrade Dominic Akpan and the media team for their commitment at ensuring the timely and successful release of the magazine.
On her part, the Vice Chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Nene Affia, thanked the Commissioner for his support to the Union and honouring the invitation to unveil the NUJ publication.
The latest NUJ Standard magazine, which features some of the numerous roads project of the present administration, alongside an interesting interview with Prof. Ibanga and other revealing articles, is the 4th edition of the publication since its inception.
