President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari as the new Group Managing Director for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari who hails from North-East will take over from Dr. Maikanti Baru on July 8, 2019.
Until his new appointment as the 19th Group Managing Director of NNPC, Kyari, a geologist, was the Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division of NNPC and also doubled, since May 2018, as Nigeria’s National Representative to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC.
In a press statement released on Thursday, June 20, by NNPC spokesperson, Ndu Ughamadu, the President has also appointed seven new Chief Operating Officers for the state-owned oil company. The new officers are: Mr. Roland Onoriode Ewubare (South-South) as Chief Operating Officer, Upstream; Engineer Mustapha Yinusa Yakubu (North-Central) as Chief Operating Officer, Refining and Petrochemicals and Engineer Yusuf Usman (North-East) as Chief Operating Officer, Gas and Power.
Others are: Ms. Lawrencia Nwadiabuwa Ndupu (South-East) as Chief Operating Officer, Ventures; Mr. Umar Isa Ajiya (North-West) as Chief Financial Officer; Engineer Adeyemi Adetunji (South-West) as Chief Operating Officer, Downstream and Mr. Farouk Garba Said (North-West), Chief Operating Officer, Corporate Services.
The seven new Chief Operating Officers appointment takes effect from 28th June, 2019.
The President also directed the new appointees to work with the current occupants of the various positions between now and 7th July, 2019 to enable a smooth transition on 8th July, 2019.
