NUJ Sets for 2019 World Press Freedom Day

Plans have been concluded by the Akwa Ibom State Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to celebrate the 2019 World Press Freedom Day.

A released signed by the State Chairman of the Union, Elder Patrick Albert, and Secretary, Mr. Amos Etuk, indicates that the event will take place on May 2, 2019, at the NUJ Press Centre, Information Drive, off IBB way, Uyo by 10am.

The release states that the event has its theme to be: “Media for Democracy: Journalism and Elections in times of Disinformation”, and will be handled by the Akwa Ibom State Independent National Electoral Commission Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barr Mike Igini, while Barr Inibehe Effiong from the Civil Society is expected as one of the discussants for the day.

“While the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Moses Ekpo will grace the occasion as Special Guest of Honour, the Executive Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area, Hon. Itoro Columba will serve as Chairman on the occasion”, the release reads.

The event will feature an award presentation to the Immediate Past Commissioner for Information and House of Representative member-elect for the Abak Federal Constituency, Mr. Aniekan Umanah; and Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Rt. Hon. Frank Archibong.

Guests expected, as stated in the release are: Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Charles Udoh; Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Uyo, Comrade Daniel Udoh; Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Sunny James; and Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Enobong Akpan.

The release invites Journalists and the general public to the occasion.
