Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi has finally reacted to a clash between supporters of his Party and the All Progressives Congress (APC), at Dei-Dei International Building Material Market Zuba, Abuja on Saturday, February 9.
The APC and PDP supporters clashed shortly after Obi’s convoy made its way to leave Dei-Dei market.
An eyewitness, Blossom Martin, said a vehicle in Obi’s convoy (PDP) and vehicles belonging to the APC were burnt in the resulting clash.
In a tweet on Sunday, February 10, the vice-presidential candidate called for calm following the incident.
In Obi’s words, “Following the departure of my team from Dei-Dei market, I’ve gotten reports of unprovoked attack on supporters of PDP who overwhelmingly turned up to welcome us. I would like to appeal to everyone for calm even at this critical time. #LetsGetNigeriaWorkingAgain”
Peter Obi is said to have escaped being lynched after supporters of the PDP and the APC clashed at the market shortly after he finished speaking to some traders.
Reports reaching Platinum.ng indicates that Obi was at the market to continue with the Atiku/Obi campaign that noon when he, alongside his convoy was blocked by an APC candidate passing by the road. This led to a fight which escalated beyond his protocol officers, resulting in the involvement of party supporters.
The Vice-presidential candidate of the PDP is said to have been whisked away in the process.
