The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, has perfected plans to dispose people of the area of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) through coercion and massive vote buying.
This plan, our Correspondent gathered, was finalised at a meeting of party chieftains in the area on Friday, February 8 at Ndiya.
A credible source, who was in attendance at the meeting said that the major plan was to buy up all existing PVCs from the villagers in the local government area, beginning with those of the people of Ndiya, the home village of Mr. Umana Okon Umana, former Secretary to the State Government.
Our source said that the plan was to embarrass Mr. Okon by ensuring that even in his unit, his party would have no votes.
The vote buying meeting was scheduled to hold on Sunday, February 11, at the home of Dr Enefiok Edem, Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Project Monitoring, at Ndiya Ikot Ukap, beginning at 2pm.
Other stakeholders involved in the transaction are: a Permanent Secretary in the state civil service, Mr. Nse Edem and one Bishop Samuel Etuk, who our Correspondent learnt is Hon Onofiok Luke’s points man in the area.
Our source, who spoke on grounds of anonymity said that N1.8 million Naira had been earmarked to be spent in Ndiya, which has three units, for the purposes of buying the PVCs from the local populace. The stakeholders at the Friday meeting agreed to pay N10,000 for each PVC.
“The plan is to pay and collect the PVCs, then on election day, cards will be given to owners they are sure would vote for the PDP, while those they suspect will not vote for the PDP would be denied of the use of their PVC until after the election. You know in the villages, it is easy for people to sell because of poverty”.
They also plan to destroy the PVCs if the APC succeeds in using the police to intimidate voters.
“If our forces succeed in snatching the ballot boxes, the PVCs would be used at secret locations to vote. We are ready to repeat what we did to Umana in 2015, where even as the APC candidate, he could not cast his own vote,” our source boasted.
